Driver deceased following Monday accident in Air Park

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office confirms that a driver was killed, following a Monday crash at the intersection of NW 48th & Highway 34.

Richard Gardner, 87, of Seward, NE was operating a black BMW northbound on NW 48th in the through lane. Richard’s son was traveling behind Gardner in a separate vehicle.

Witnesses reported the Black BMW entered into the intersection on a red light for northbound NW 48th St. traffic and subsequently into the path of an International Harvester straight truck.

Resuscitation efforts on Richard Gardner were performed by a Good Samaritan, Malcolm Fire and Rescue, and Lincoln Fire and Rescue. Attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful and Richard Gardner was pronounced deceased.

The Lincoln Police Department and Nebraska State Patrol assisted at the scene, and the incident remains under investigation by LSO.
