UPDATE: Victim identified, arrests made in Thursday homicide

The investigation continues into a homicide that occurred on a StarTran bus yesterday afternoon along A Street between 17th & 27th.

Lincoln Police say 69-year-old Sharon Johnson of Lincoln was shot while riding the bus eastbound on A Street at approximately 2:38 pm. She was the sole passenger.

LPD revealed that their investigation indicated a vehicle occupied by 19-year-old Jared Wheeler and 27-year-old Joel Jones Jr. was driving opposite to the bus, when Jones Jr. fired a shot, striking and killing Johnson where she was seated.

Later on in the day, the vehicle was located at the Kwik Shop near 14th & Adams and two arrests were made:

Jones Jr. was arrested for 2nd Degree Murder, Discharge a Firearm into a Vehicle, Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony, and Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Prohibited Person. When arrested, he was in possession of a weapon that matches the caliber of a shell casing on scene.

Investigators also identified 19-year-old Jarell Wheeler as the driver of the vehicle and arrested him for Accessory to 2nd Degree Murder.
