Saturday just before midnight, a Lincoln Police officer reported his cruiser was struck by a vehicle on 40th Street between Normal Blvd & South Street.
As the officer slowed for a stoplight, his cruiser was struck from behind, according to the department. The officer was able to exit and render aid to the other driver involved in the accident.
The other driver, a 21-year-old female, was found to have a Blood Alcohol Content of .149 — well above the legal limit. She was cited for DUI and Negligent Driving.
The officer was transported to the hospital by Lincoln Fire & Rescue with non-life-threatening injuries. Lincoln Police say the damage to the cruiser involved is extensive and “considered a total loss.”
