Friday night just before 6 pm, Lincoln Police officers were called to a disturbance along the 1900 Block of J Street.
According to Officer Erin Spilker, Public Information Officer for the department, neighbors reported hearing furniture being thrown.
As officers arrived, they contacted 36-year-old Damien Brown who was following a woman and yelling at her. As officers attempted to speak with Brown he became verbally aggressive and threatened officers, Spilker said.
After contacting family members over the phone, Brown removed his jacket and stated it was time to fight the officers. He was told that he was not free to leave, but he joined a family member who had arrived at the scene. As officers attempted to place Brown into custody, he was non-compliant and a fight ensued.
Brown pulled away from officers, causing the group to fall to the ground, Spilker said.
After a 15 minute struggle, a taser was used to finally subdue Brown. Lincoln Fire & Rescue was called to the scene, but Brown continued to fight. The struggle continued while Brown was being treated at a Lincoln Hospital and booked into the Lancaster County Jail.
He was ultimately arrested for 3rd Degree Assault on an Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing a Peace Officer.
During the struggle on J Street, 38-year-old Leslie Brown, a family member, continually approached officers from behind and refused to comply with commands to back up, Spilker said.
She was arrested for Interfering with an Arrest.
As a result of the J Street struggle, one officer received cuts to the hand.
