Last night at 8:49 PM, Lincoln Police and Lincoln Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the intersection of 84th & Adams Street for a reported injury accident.

On the scene, officers discovered that a vehicle involved, driven by 27-year-old Hugh Nguyen, was eastbound on Adams when he blew the light at 84th, colliding with two other cars.

An 82-year-old man who witnessed the accident stopped to help, but Nguyen jumped into the man’s vehicle, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and sped away from the scene. All three cars involved in the initial accident suffered extensive damage, and both of the other drivers were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At about 9:00 PM, Nguyen returned to the scene and collided with the rear end of an LFR fire engine, causing an unknown amount of damage. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but Nguyen refused to stop. A short pursuit ensued, eventually being terminated for public safety concerns.

30 minutes later, officers spotted Nguyen and the Jeep near 25th & M Street. They attempted to stop him, but Nguyen accelerated away from the traffic stop, intentionally ramming an LPD cruiser head-on. Both vehicles were disabled and a struggle between Nguyen and officers ensued.

A taser was utilized to remove him from the vehicle, eventually bringing Nguyen into custody.

He is charged with two counts of Unlawful Taking, Robbery, Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident, Operating a Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest, Resisting Arrest, Assault on an Officer, Willful Reckless Driving, and Fleeing in Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest.

Nguyen was also cited for Violating a Traffic Control Device.
