At 8:39 am this morning, Lincoln Police officers responded to a report of a robbery at a north Lincoln hotel. The victim provided a detailed description of the robbery suspects and their vehicle, a Chevrolet Trailblazer. As the victim was being interviewed by officers, he was alerted that his credit card, stolen during the robbery, was being used at multiple businesses in the area.
Shortly after the alert, a Nebraska State Patrol trooper spotted the suspects’ Trailblazer and initiated a pursuit. During the pursuit, a male suspect began shooting from the vehicle at the trooper.
The trooper performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, bringing the vehicle to a stop underneath the Interstate 80 bridge at 56th Street. The trooper was assisted by a Lincoln Police officer who joined the pursuit.
Once the Trailblazer stopped, an exchange of gunfire between the male suspect and law enforcement ensued. After this exchange, the female suspect produced a gun, prompting another exchange of gunfire.
Both suspects were transported to a Lincoln hospital by Lincoln Fire & Rescue, who was called to render aid at the scene.
The female suspect underwent surgery but succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. As of 4 pm, police say the male suspect was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit in critical condition.
A trooper was also transported to the hospital, where he was treated and released for a shoulder injury after a collision during the pursuit.
