Overnight south Lincoln apartment fire displaces dozens of residents

1 min read

At 5:01 am this morning, firefighters with Lincoln Fire & Rescue responded to the Southwood Village apartment complex, located near 27th & Highway 2.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy fire coming from the roof of one of the buildings. Due to the size of the building, the fire yielded a three-alarm response- seven fire engines and three ladder trucks- in addition to various command and support personnel.

Around 40-50 residents were safely evacuated from the building, despite smoke detectors not sounding due to the location of the fire. LFR says the damage was mostly contained to the roof, with the third floor suffering smoke damage. No injuries were reported and the investigation into the cause of the fire remains on-going.
